Jamil and his experience

Jamil Soucar is a Civil Engineer with a long career in construction management since 1983. He grew up in the middle of a Civil war in Lebanon for 14 years from age 13 until 27 when he left for the US. Dreamt of a better life in the US since he was 14 years old. That dream seemed impossible at the time and the frustration grew. When the opportunity came, he borrowed money to travel. He arrived in the US with one suit case, $1,800 and big dreams to build a life and future that he dreamt of.

He struggled the first few years building up his US experience, learning the new culture, new construction terminology and defining his path forward. Jamil held many positions in the construction industry from digging dirt on site, site superintendent up to Senior Management positions with Contractors and Owners, gaining knowledge and the perspective of managing projects from both sides of the project, Owner’s and Contractor’s. As a senior Project Manager consulting to a Public School District, he oversaw a program of 560 projects at 123 school campuses, from start of scoping, design management, bidding up to construction completion.

While building his experience and career, Jamil was going to UCLA at night to study Project Management which he completed. Jamil is a continuous learner and always looking at growing his experience and career. In 2007 Jamil decided to leave the comfort of a secure monthly high salary and start his own Construction Management / Claims consulting business. In 2008 the country hit a hard recession, but Jamil did not let go of this career move, struggled through the recession but never lost the sight of the future potential. The business became successful offering Construction Project Management consulting services to General Contractors, Owners and as an expert witness to Construction Lawyers at mediation, arbitration and litigation.

Jamil is also a trainer for Construction professionals. He taught Construction Management, Scheduling and claims locally and internationally. That experience inspired him to write and publish his book titled “Real Life Construction Management Guide from A – Z”. The book won awards at the Los Angeles and New York book festivals.

Based on that achievement, Jamil developed an online course covering the material of his book and is currently a public speaker on construction topics like construction delays and other key construction management topics.

Jamil held multiple certificates and licenses including General Contractors license, Real Estate Salesperson License, Design-Build certificate, Certified Construction Manager & Forensic Scheduling Expert.

Jamil is passionate about sharing his knowledge with others and has mentored several people getting into the field of construction management.
